Josh Carroll grew up in Habersham County, where he saw early on how hard life can be for people without support or a voice. “Everyone deserves a voice, and the law should hold others accountable when they don’t do what’s right.” That early sense of justice is what pushed him toward a career in law.
After graduating from Mercer University and Mercer Law School, Josh began his legal career at a large insurance defense law firm in Atlanta. He quickly realized he wanted to spend his career representing real people, not corporations and insurance companies. With his wife still in law school at Mercer, Macon felt like the right move. Josh joined Buzzell, Welsh & Hill in 2008 and has been representing injured individuals across Georgia ever since.
As his practice grew, Josh focused on cases where he could make a meaningful difference for people who genuinely needed someone in their corner. Those relationships are what fuel him. “It’s easy in this profession to forget why you’re here,” Josh says. “But for me, it’s always been about helping people who need a voice and making sure they’re heard.” That perspective has also helped Josh build strong trust within Middle Georgia’s Hispanic community, whom he describes as “some of the most humble, grateful, and close-knit clients I’ve had the privilege to represent.”
Beyond his work at the firm, Josh currently serves as President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, advocating statewide for policies that protect consumers and strengthen access to justice. He also serves on the Legislative Committee of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation’s Chairman’s Advisory Council, working to ensure injured workers have a fair and level playing field.
Throughout his career, Josh has been recognized for leadership, professionalism, and trial advocacy, with honors that include an AV Preeminent® Rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, selections to Georgia Super Lawyers and Super Lawyers “Rising Stars,” “Top 40 Under 40” by The National Trial Lawyers, and “Legal Elite” by Georgia Trend Magazine. Locally, he is a member of the Macon Bar Association and Macon Trial Lawyers Association.
Josh is admitted to practice before all state and superior courts in Georgia, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia. He regularly appears before the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation and has served as co-counsel with attorneys on trucking and automobile collision matters outside the state.
Josh is married to Ashley Pugh Carroll. They have two beautiful daughters, Emily and Maggie. In his spare time, Josh enjoys playing golf, reading, being a dad, and attending sporting events.
