Meet the Buzzell, Welsh & Hill College Scholarship Program Winner
We’re so excited to announce the winner of our 3rd annual Scholarship Contest: Thomas Burkhalter!
For this year’s contest, we asked folks to reimagine driver education curriculum, designing a new program or process that would place less emphasis on passing a written test and more on learning to be a safe, confident and conscientious driver.
We received many great ideas, but Thomas’s plan stood out from the rest. Here’s how he described it: “I wanted a clean, effective curriculum that wouldn’t intimidate users. I think most kids need a little more driving instruction than what is currently required … I know I did!”
A Macon native, Thomas graduated this spring from the Academy for Classical Education. His twin brother graduated from Howard High School and learned about the scholarship through the school newsletter, passing the information to Thomas. In school, Thomas participated on the shooting sports team, which made it all the way to the state competition twice in the past few years.
This fall, Thomas will attend the University of Georgia, studying computer science with a concentration in cyber security.
Congratulations to Thomas from all the Buzzell, Welsh & Hill team. We look forward to seeing what you achieve at UGA!
